Accessibility statement
What we build to, what is still outstanding and how to ask for another format. Last updated September 2026.
Our commitment
We want everyone to be able to read this site and reach Derek Bryer. Alberta has no single provincial web accessibility standard, so we have set our own target. We build the site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium.
What we do
- Pages use headings in order and clear page regions
- A skip link lets keyboard users jump past the menu
- Every link, button and form field can be reached and used with a keyboard
- Body text is meant to meet the 4.5 to 1 contrast ratio that Level AA asks for
- Form fields carry visible labels and plain error messages
- Text reflows on small screens without sideways scrolling
- Photos have text descriptions
Known limitations
- Some older photos and blog images may carry short descriptions that could say more. We are improving them as we revisit each page.
- Cloudflare Turnstile screens forms for spam. If it blocks you, call 587-325-2992 or email [email protected] and we will take your details directly.
- Embedded videos may lack captions. Ask and we will send a written summary.
Another format
Need something in large print, plain text or read aloud over the phone? Ask and we will agree a format with you, at no charge.
Tell us about a barrier
Email [email protected] or phone 587-325-2992 with the page and what went wrong. We will reply and tell you what we plan to do. You can also use the contact page.
How we check
We test pages with a keyboard alone and at several screen sizes. We review new pages and photos before they go live. Automated tools catch only part of what matters, so your feedback is a real part of how we find problems. When you report one, we aim to reply promptly and to fix it as soon as we reasonably can.
Some blog posts are drafted with an AI writing tool and reviewed by a person before they are published. That review includes headings, links and image descriptions. Community photos are credited on the photo credits page.
